Tonight, the LotR and I were watching the Suns game - well, let me rephrase that. I was watching the Suns game, and the LotR was flipping the channels during every commercial break to watch a documentary on Intelligent Design vs. Evolution. It was basically a rerun of the whole Dover, KS school board fiasco last year, and the show actually filmed reenactments of the trials. Obviously, the channel was evolution-biased, which, I have to agree, is the only way to go. They made lots of excellent points showing how Intelligent Design is not a scientific theory, that it is, in fact, creationism in a different-colored cloak. The reason why it’s not a scientific theory? It’s not testable or provable, as all scientific theories have to be in order to be classified as such. The judge brilliantly called it out as unscientific, and irrefutably a ploy by those who practice the christian religion. Ironically, though he angered meek, obedient, law-abiding christians, they are the very ones who deluged his email inbox with death threats and angry emails. One of the guys on the documentary actually called him a jackass. Why? For upholding the Constitution? Yes, the Constitution does protect freedom of speech. It does not endorse the religion impressionism of young children. In fact, if we read the constitution correctly, isn’t there something in there about ’separation of the church and state’? I thought so.
Need I mention that I got sucked into the show, and completely missed the end of the Suns game? No worries there, we beat those New York Knicks good.
In other news… well, not that much else is going on. Just work… no school lately, but a LOMA course that I have one more chapter to finish.
Have I mentioned that I love jalapeños from the can?!

Is it just me, or is anyone else out there getting just a little bit tired of hyper-sensitive jackasses?
It seems every day there is a new story in the news, about how so-and-so said something, and it really offended this such-and-such group - they should really express a public apology. Anything to do with any different race, any different country, and the perpetrator of that vile deed is screwed.
For christ’s sake, the U.S. gets made more fun of than any other nationality out there - we’re fat, we’re short, we’re stupidly republican, conservative, can’t even explore stem-cell research, and to top it all off, we’re damn cocky and think we run the whole show. Yet, I don’t see anyone apologizing for calling Americans ’stupid, cellulite-prone bigoted jerks’. But every time we say something about any other country - well, take this for example. The show Desperate Housewives [god forbid I ever even see one episode], had a small joke in it, that used Philippine medicinal education as the punch line. The officials of that country threw a fit and demand an apology. How did they even hear about that?!
Don’t forget about Sasha Cohen’s Borat, and the uproar he caused with Kazakhstan leaders. Sporadic name-calling in Los Angeles by celebrities, who in turn, get sued up the whazoo. Comments by comedians are condemned by the Catholic church as ‘hate speech’ [see, Suck it, Jesus], and the tempest over muslim comics on the web was blatantly unacceptable.
It seems that we are no longer a country of free speech. What a shame.
This is getting to be out of hand. I demand an apology, folks.

Back a few months ago, I wrote an entry referencing a website… well, here’s what I wrote:
While reading Pharyngula, one of the blogs I’m currently reading, I came across a post in which he linked this link… and like him, I had to wonder whether or not it was satire. Unfortunately, it appears NOT to be, and is, in fact, completely serious.
I guess that some people actually do believe that the earth is stationary and that.. well, see for yourself. Just know that I am unaffiliated and unconnected with this site… www.reformation.org
The subject of the website is that one of its articles maintains that the sun orbits around the earth, not the other way around! I was therefore VERY shocked and amused when I got this comment today, on that post. Yes, a real live person named Micky actually posted this.

Mostly, the Surgeon General of the United States is famous for those little warnings on cigarette packs. “Warning from the Surgeon General: Smoking increases the likelihood of lung cancer.” or some claptrap like that. This surgeon general, however, has more weighty issues on his mind.
Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona accused the the Bush administration of virtually muzzling him on topics that didn’t play well with the administrations agenda.
Carmona said Bush administration political appointees censored his speeches and kept him from talking out publicly about certain issues, including the science on embryonic stem cell research, contraceptives and his misgivings about the administration’s embrace of “abstinence-only” sex education.
Who is the Doctor? Who has more professional knowledge about these thing… the Surgeon General, or Dictator Bush?
Carmona said the administration prevented him from voicing views on stem cell research. Many scientists see it as a promising avenue for curing many diseases. But because it involves destroying human embryos, opponents call it immoral.
Carmona said he was prevented from talking publicly even about the science underpinning the research to enable the U.S. public to have a better understanding of a complicated issue. He said most of the public debate over the matter has been driven by political, ideological or theological motivations.
“I was blocked at every turn. I was told the decision had already been made — stand down, don’t talk about it,” he said.
Sound suspiciously evil? It is. And why doesn’t The Administration want the public to know about all of these potential cures for deadly diseases?
“Anything that doesn’t fit into the political appointees’ ideological, theological or political agenda is ignored, marginalized or simply buried,” Dr. Richard Carmona, who served as the nation’s top doctor from 2002 until 2006, told a House of Representatives committee.
“The problem with this approach is that in public health, as in a democracy, there is nothing worse than ignoring science, or marginalizing the voice of science for reasons driven by changing political winds. The job of surgeon general is to be the doctor of the nation, not the doctor of a political party.” Carmona added.
