Ideas are elusive, slippery things. Best to keep a pad of
paper and a pencil at your bedside, so you can stab them
during the night before they get away.

So I had this really vivid story-dream the other night. There was a family on the run from soldiers. Kind of like in the Nazi-era, except it was in the future. There was a girl who was pregnant - this part came from the movie Children of Men, and the tragic girl from Pan’s Labyrinth was there too. The family had a wealthy brother & sister-in-law who had an elaborate underground bunker - very modern, with a refridgerator full of onions and squash and stuff. So, the soldiers came looking for them for over a year - but never found the place, despite a few close calls. Eventually the brother and sister-in-law got fed up with hiding them, and kind of went kookoo. The sister-in-law shot the Pan’s Labrynth girl in the head with a gun, but she came back to life and shot HER in the head, and they were both walking around with tiny bullet holes in their foreheads… and then the girl hid the gun in my bathroom counter where my hairbrush is… and I woke up.

I’ve had a LOT going lately. Today at work I almost flipped over the edge a couple of times over stupid mistakes that I made. I think that’s because I was really tired, and didn’t eat a single bite all day until dinner-time at home… and also because I’m uber-stressed over everything that’s going on. I’ve caught up a tiny bit though - I brought a lot of excel spreadsheets home, and actually got in another 2 hours of work this evening. Now I have to get started on either Spanish or something else. Every time I get something done, it’s like drilling a little hole in my head and letting a tiny bit of acidic stress leak out. Kind of like bleeding with a leech or something. Not that I’ve ever actually done either option.

I finally got all of our wedding photos printed and mailed off to family members, as well a couple of packages to my sisters. And all of the bills are paid and we got a lawnmower, so the tall grass in the front lawn that had been making me tense up at the thought of looking shabby is taken care of.

English class starts this week. My department at work is leaving Monday for Chicago. We’ll be there for 2 days. My female co-workers are entirely hyped up about us all sitting together in the plane and getting drunk… but I don’t know. I think I’d rather be able to walk upon landing, and actually remember the trip. I think I’ll just bring along a couple of good books and enjoy a bloody mary.

Speaking of books, I started the novel for my English class, Double Helix. I started reading it a couple of nights ago, before going to bed. After the 6th execution in the first ten pages, I decided that I would probably be better off NOT reading it before sleeping.

Tomorrow night, the LotR and I are going with a couple of friends to see the latest installment of Harry Potter. I’m expecting it to be of the same caliber as all the previous ones, and from what I’ve heard, that’s exactly what it delivers.

Bring on the popcorn and twinkies.
